President's Message

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to December's Newsletter

As we approach the close of another year, I want to extend heartfelt holiday greetings to each of you. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, or simply enjoy the spirit of the season, I hope this time brings you peace, joy, and moments of connection with the people who matter most

Thank you for your support, enthusiasm, and friendship throughout the past year. Our club continues to thrive because of your participation, your patience with technology’s quirks, and your willingness to learn and help one another.

This season also brings a bittersweet change. Our longtime Membership Chairs, Howard and Maureen Kapnic, will be stepping down due to health concerns. We are deeply grateful for the dedication, kindness, and steady leadership they have brought to the role. Please join me in wishing them comfort, strength, and better days ahead.

Please remember that your 2026 membership fee of $15 is due on January 1st, and can be paid during club opening times. (Please have the correct cash, or a Check, as we don’t have any change.)

As a reminder, the club will be closed for the Christmas holiday from December 22nd through January 5th 2026, with regular classes resuming afterward. We hope you enjoy the break and return refreshed for a new year of learning and community.

Save the Date: Join us as we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Computer and Technology Club with a special luncheon on March 16, 2026. Additional details will be shared soon.

Wishing you all a warm, safe, and joyful holiday season, and a bright start to the year ahead. Stay safe and Have a Fun Holiday.

SIMPLE TIPS TO SPOT AMAZON IMPERSONATION SCAMS
Stay informed with these tips to help recognize impersonation scams - when a scammer pretends to be a trusted company and tries to get access to sensitive information like personal or financial information, or Amazon account details.

  1. Always use the Amazon mobile app or website for ordering, customer service, account changes, delivery tracking, and refund status.

  2. Amazon will never ask you to make payments or provide payment information (including gift cards or wire transfers) for products or services over the phone.

  3. Scammers might try to create a sense of urgency to persuade you to do what they're asking. Be careful any time someone tries to convince you that you must act now.

  4. Example impersonation scam tactics that you could receive:

    • Fake messages claiming to be about delivery or account issues.

    • Third-party social media posts and ads with deals that seem too good to be true. Shop directly on our website or mobile app for authentic offers.

    • Messages through unofficial channels asking for your password or payment information.

    • Unfamiliar links asking you to verify your account credentials through fake or phishing websites. Amazon will never send emails asking customers to verify their account credentials.

    • Unsolicited phone calls claiming to be from tech support or other agencies.

Visit amazon.com/scams to learn how to identify and report scams, access resources for scam prevention, and understand Amazon's efforts to protect customers from fraudulent activities.

                                               SHOW BATTERY PERCENTAGE ON iPHONE

Apple, for whatever reason, doesn’t show battery percentage by default. Since the percentage just appears inside the battery graphic, it doesn’t take up any extra space on your screen, so there's really no reason not to turn it on. To show it, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Percentage.

If you open the Battery Health & Charging section in the Battery menu, you can find out what your maximum battery capacity is relative to when your iPhone was new. Your iPhone's battery degrades over time. You can’t increase your battery capacity, but you can make a mental note of when you might want or need to replace it.

RESET A WINDOWS PASSWORD

Forgot the password to your Windows PC and can’t log in? Don't panic, Windows lets you reset a forgotten password, whether you use a Microsoft account or a local account. Changing the password for a Microsoft account requires some form of authentication, while changing it for a local account prompts you to answer the security questions you set up. You can also create and use a password reset disk on any USB stick.

Beyond using a password, you’ll want to enable a backup authentication method for signing into Windows. You can set up a PIN, picture password, security key, fingerprint, or facial recognition. And if you use a Microsoft Account, you can also implement two-step verification, though you may still need to use your password in certain situations. Here’s how to reset your password and sign in again.

RECOVER A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT -- If you’re using a Microsoft Account in Windows 10 or 11 and can’t remember your password, click the I forgot my password link at the Windows login screen. You must then confirm your email address and choose how you want to receive your verification code.

Click Get code, then check your email or text messages for the code. Enter the code in the appropriate field and click Next. You can then create a new password for your Microsoft Account. Click Next when finished, and Windows will confirm that your password has been changed. Click the Sign in button, then return to the sign-in screen. You can now enter your new password and log in to Windows just as you did with your old password.
