NEVER LOSE YOUR MOUSE CURSOR IN WINDOWS

When you use Windows on a small laptop screen (as opposed to a larger monitor), sometimes you simply can't find the mouse cursor or pointer. Sometimes, it's just too small to see easily, and other times, it seems to hide among visually similar elements. Neither scenario is ideal. The good news is that a quick visit to the Windows Settings menu can solve your frustrations. You’ll never lose the mouse cursor again if you follow the steps below.

1. OPEN THE SETTINGS APP -- Open the Settings app and type "mouse" in the search box, or navigate to Accessibility. (In Windows 10, this section is called Ease of Access). Choose Mouse Pointer and Touch.

2. ENLARGE THE CURSOR

3. CHOOSE INVERTED COLOR -- Choose the third pointer color option, Inverted.. A solid color (such as bright red or yellow) to make the cursor stand out could become distracting. With the Inverted option, the mouse always appears in the complementary color of the background. If the pointer is on the border of two elements with different colors, it adjusts accordingly.

HOW TO USE SOS ON iPHONE

There's a way to make an emergency call and send your phone's location to all your emergency contacts. Apple calls it SOS (not to be confused with Emergency SOS via satellite for placing calls in dead zones).

SOS is designed so you can use it quickly and immediately, even if you need to hide the fact that you're using it. The only bad part about SOS is the instructions are different for iPhone 7 and earlier, though as those older devices are phased out, it's less of a concern.

FOR iPHONE 8 AND LATER -- Press and hold the side button and either volume button until an "SOS Emergency Call" slider appears on the screen. Slide your finger on it to call local emergency services. If you need to hide the phone or can't operate the screen, hold down the buttons. A countdown begins, and an alert sounds. If you release the buttons after the countdown, your phone automatically dials emergency services.

FOR iPHONE 7 AND EARLIER -- Press the side or top button quickly five times. An SOS slider appears on the screen. Slide your finger on Emergency Call to call emergency services.

REMOVE YAHOO! SEARCH FROM GOOGLE CHROME

Some malware and sketchy extensions will force Yahoo! as your search engine. Take your browser back.

To remove Yahoo search from Chrome:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Click Search Engine

  3. Click Manage Search Engines

  4. Set a different search engine like Google or DuckDuckGo as the default

  5. In the options for Yahoo, click "Remove From List" to delete it from Chrome entirely.

HOW SEARCH ENGINES ARE ADDED AND REMOVED FROM CHROME -- In Chrome's desktop version, you can add as well as remove any search engine you want. However, in Chrome on a mobile device, you can't add or remove search engines. You can only switch to a different search engine if you do not prefer the current one. Go to the following website:

 switch to another search engine

REMOVE YAHOO SEARCH FROM CHROME ON DESKTOP -- To remove Yahoo from the search engines list in Chrome on your Windows computer

  1. Open Chrome on your computer.

  2. In Chrome's top-right corner, click the three dots.

  3. From the three-dots menu, select "Settings."

  4. On the "Settings" page, in the left sidebar, click "Search Engine."

  5. You will see a "Search Engine" section on the right. Here, click "Manage Search Engines."

  6. Chrome will open a "Manage Search Engines" page. If Yahoo is your default search engine, you will have to switch to a different search engine before you can remove Yahoo. To do so, find your preferred search engine in the list, click the three dots next to it, and select "Make Default" from the menu.

You are now ready to remove Yahoo. To do so, next to "Yahoo" on the list, click the three dots and choose "Remove From List." And, Chrome will immediately remove Yahoo from the search engines list.

On the same page, review the "Other Search Engines" list and, if it appears, remove Yahoo from there as well. You can do so by selecting the three dots next to "Yahoo" and choosing "Remove From List." Your browser is now Yahoo-free!

                                                                                      PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SCAMS

Use these recommendations to protect yourself from scams:

VERIFY PHONE CALLS -- If you receive a phone call and aren’t sure if the company is legitimate or who you’re speaking with, hang up. Search for a verified number on the company website. If someone calls claiming to be from your bank and you feel uncomfortable, hang up and call the number on the back of your card before providing any personal or financial information.

BEWARE OF URGENCY -- Scammers notoriously apply pressure by saying your account is compromised, claiming they’ll cut off your services, or threaten legal action. Pause and ask a trusted friend or family member about the situation before making any financial decisions.

BE CAUTIOUS OF UPFRONT FEES AND GUARANTEED RETURNS -- If an opportunity seems too good to be true, it probably is. Look up reviews of the company to check its reputation and trustworthiness.

DON’T BE PRESSURED TO PAY WITH GIFT CARDS -- Utility companies, banks, the IRS, or any other government agency will never request payment in the form of a gift card. Don’t share the number on the back of the gift card with anyone you don’t know.

iPHONE CONTACTS RELATED NAMES

In your iPhone contacts, fill out the Add related name field with nicknames that are easy to remember. Now, you can use those nicknames to call and text those individuals using Siri.
